Well this week has been a busy one...everyone is thinking about the sunshine that is hopefully just around the corner.
On Monday, I headed off to another seaside delight...
Lyme Regis
...down on the Dorset coast.
We left our Somerset home in fog, hoping that at least the sun would come through by lunchtime. As if in a dream, on the approach road to Lyme it cleared away and we arrived in brilliant sunshine!
By 9.15 I was drinking coffee with a view of the morning sun sparkling on the water and not a cloud in the sky. I hasten to add that this continued for the rest of the day...until our return home - when only 15 minutes into our journey the fog returned - the hood on the car had to go back up...desperate times call for desperate measures...and I felt ever so slightly guilty to hear that everyone back in Somerset had described their day as 'autumnal' !
There isn't a day that goes by when I don't consider myself so lucky to be able to visit some gorgeous British coastal towns and villages, sourcing wonderful seaside retro items and meeting some wonderful people along the way...and it is my job!!
Well, to me it is more than a job...
it is a bit of a passion and it has been great to hear from my customers where all these items are going...
beach huts...campervans etc.!
Hurrah!!
Well, I am sure for those who don't know Lyme Regis (and even for those who do) you may like to have an up-to date bit of info on what you can find in this gorgeous Dorset coastal town!
The town itself draws you down the hill towards that sparkling sea - Broad Street is a lovely shopping street on the hill down to the harbour and after a lovely walk on the beach along to the cobb - complete with my 'French Lieutenant's Women's moment...as I imagined I was there in my long cape and the sea dashing against the wall - despite the fact that it was a calm day.. I headed back up there to see what I could find.
The traders are all so friendly and I was provided with a free 'traders guide' which details all the shops in the town - beautifully drawn and easy to follow - fantastic!
A great range of shops can be found in Broad Street. To name but a few, a fabulous bookshop called Serendip, also The Good Food Shop, which speaks for itself as well as The Happy Cupcake Co. and A Touch Of Vintage.
My favourite shop in this particular street though had to be Ginger Beer..with a name like that it was a winner!
So after a spot of lunch and a double spot of day-dreaming I investigated the other half of the town, including Bridge Street and Coombe Street. Here in this quieter part of town you find yourself walking through narrower streets, with a lovely mix of prettily painted houses, art galleries and views of the river Lym, winding it's way through.
There is so much to see in Lyme and you don't have to walk miles to see it. By the end of my day I felt wonderfully relaxed - you cannot help but slow down and the sea air certainly helps. The town hasn't been ruined and I know that I will be back down there soon.
I cannot recommend enough, just planning a day out to a British coastal town this spring or summer. Sometimes just a day is enough to make you feel like you have had a holiday!
I hope to add a few other great seaside locations to my blogs in the coming months. Please do click on the 'follow blog' button!
We hope to welcome you to the shop soon as well - please take a look. We will be having plenty of new items in every week as we go into spring and summer!
If you live on the coast or are dreaming about it.....
Have a great week!
Speak to you all soon, Ros.
